Weekly Target and Sources [GS]

Hi Guys,

Thought of setting up this thread where we can share our weekly targets of study. This has the following benefits:

1) We become conscious of a weekly goal and live-up to it
2) Others benefit by figuring out if they have missed an important topic by seeing other people's posts
3) Sources used throughout the preparation are shared for greater good


My target this week:
GS-1: Covering Modern India History (both pre and post independence)
(also cover some parts of my optional syllabus)

Sources:
India Since Independence (Bipan Chandra)
Spectrum History (Rajiv Ahir)

1) Culture
2) Polity part of paper 3
(sources are the usual ones- spectrum, nios for culture and dd basu, bare acts, laxmikanth for polity. And of course internet.)
Hoping I can complete them satisfactorily within a week.:-B

Damn! that is a big list. I find it very difficult to bring myself to study culture apart from religions. I am sure this is going to be my weakest section come December. My only hope is that with the inclusion of many heavyweights in GS-I, culture is not given more than 20-30 marks.

Hope so. Or else my head will think of Manipuri while my hand will write about Mohininatyam in a lasya pace which will cause the examiner to do utter tandav in my paper.

Spent the last few days dawdling about religions from (1) and finished (5) and (6). Added bits of possibly useless stuff from cultural Anthro. Made notes (unfortunately not very legible :P ). Starting now. This section is going to waste a LOT of time.

Man, how do you find the time and patience to do culture so comprehensively!! I'm finding it very hard to just go through spectrum alone. I don't think I'll be referring to NIOS as I planned earlier.

@arindamsarkar Damn! That sure is a huge list! However, I too feel that we can expect reasonable coverage from this portion and thus needs to be done in a decent manner.

@sahilth @arindamsarkar @stardust1901 I have been reading A.L.Basham's - The Wonder that was India I have covered around 100 pages out of 500+. The coverage is reasonable and it doesn't put me to sleep as Spectrum's Culture does.

It has already been suggested by someone in the forum, so just wanted to mention an alternate to Spectrum and other resources. A copy of this is already in the forum at A.L.Basham
