How to cover current affairs?

I have been preparing for 6 months now. In this period, one thing which I found most difficult was to cover the current affairs. It is not the lack of but the plentifulness of resources which is troubling. Current affairs is a field which requires constant revision and is increasingly becoming important for both mains and pre. Till now the strategy which I follow is to make my own notes from newspapers ( I follow IE, Livemint). Then I also read insights and iasbaba daily current affairs and add to my notes anything missed. I do not follow Hindu as insights mainly follows hindu, so it gets covered. For magazine I am reading iasbaba and vision ias. This takes a lot of time(about 3-4 hours daily). Till now it was fine, but now I need to cut it short. Also i feel that magazines become very repetitive at times. So can I skip them? If not then which one to follow as I only intend to read one and revise it regularly. Pls share your strategies and opinions.

From which month should I prepare. I currently have magazine from jan 2015 but I think that is a bit outdated.
  • Hindu or Indian express with notes combined with insights will suffice. No need for vision or magazines. My personal opinion

Two magazines, how do you manage it. Do you get time for revision.

  • My advice..leave this 2 newspaper or 2 magazines habit for some daysss..being a fresher u can't manage everything.. give first priority to your gs syllabus and optional now..current affairs is an ocean..others who read two or 3 sources with newspaper are mostly seniors.. so rather than reading too many things focus on few core stuff and revise the same infinitely.. for you i suggest vision current affairs + insights + indian express normal reading.. all not more than 3 hours a day with weekly and monthly revisions.. rest time you better focus on fundamental books like ncerts /laxmikant /notes etc ..it's your first chance so study selectively and revise multiple times ..and also practice more than mere reading.. ATB :)
