Ahh no not being wiser doc. Being Pragmatic, there is no point in wasting 3 4 prime years of youth in chasing what I cant do. Its true i am an avg student with an avg skills and aptitude and upsc does require special skill sets but nevertheless CSE prep was one of the best decision I have ever taken. It has prepared me well for other avenues. The upcoming attempt is just a formality. 2017 me plan kiya tha but I think its end of the road for me.
@Captain_Peroxide It's wasting only if you deem it to be. All that you've written above is a myth. The only thing that CSE requires is dogged persistence. Everyone takes 2-4 years to clear the exam; no one gets through six months after picking up Laxmikanth for the first time. I won't deny, I've had my misgivings in the past year; thought about doing other stuff, but then I kept coming across something that dragged me back to this exam. What makes so many IIT-IIM alumni take this exam? What makes this exam so important and valuable to every literate Indian citizen? What makes every parent wish that their children would be civil servants one day? Money is the driving force in our lives, whether we accept it or not. Nothing is possible without money. In that scenario, seeing people leave 18-20 lpa jobs for CSE makes me wonder why. I know MDs and General Surgeons who have left their very lucrative practices (~ 2-2.5 lpm) to slog for CSE. I've never been able to fully fathom why this happens, but I believe that they would have seen/thought something of this exam, which made them come back to studies (as if a decade of studying wasn't enough). Maybe I'm overthinking, maybe it is not some altruistic motive but a yearning to simply pass the "toughest examination" there is. Maybe I'm wrong about all this. What I'm not wrong about though, is the future on the other side of the exam. All the tangible and intangible benefits are enough, for me at least, to "waste" my youth and gain something so invaluable in return. I wish you good luck for your future endeavours, but I hope that you will come back and hit hard once you've secured yourself financially. All the best !!
