    Paper 2- 93
  • Any Idea how many students cleared with philosophy ??
  • Hardly 2,3guys got 230+ as of now
Though sample size is small here, you are right. But not all successful philosophy optional candidates of forum have shared their marks.Still, easy to conclude that philosophy is not like last year.Scary to see that some selected candidates have scored so low in philo which resulted in a lower rank.

Kindly share your attempt and philo score.

  • P1- 108, P2-111

    Missed by 1 :(
  • They did harsk marking i think ....becoz scaling does not decreases in only one paper as in philo paper1..
  • Paper 1 - 117 ( left 20 marks )
    Paper 2 - 122

Missed final cutoff by around 40 marks.

@Shwetank : Your marks in Philosophy are very good. For the benefit of members, can you please answer following questions. Your input will definitely help to build a strategy for next year exam.

Q1) Marks Obtained versus Correct Attempt in Paper-1 and Paper-2 in CSM-15?

Q2) What was your medium of Mains Examination in CSM-15?

Q3) In CSM-15, which questions you selected from Paper-1. Indian Philosophy or Western Philosophy? If possible please give the question number.

Q4) In CSM-15, which questions you selected from Paper-2 ? Please provide question number.

Q5) In CSM-15, did you solely rely on Patanjali/Mitra/coaching notes OR added significant (>10 percent) content from reference Books also. If yes, then in which topic/questions/sections ?

Q6) In CSM-15, did you write your own view points in Paper 1? If yes, then in which topics/questions/sections. For eg: In Buddhism, if we write - "Though Buddhist is scientific philosophy but for practical level, change is not noticable and irrelevant many times". This is our view point and not Buddha's.

Q7) In CSM-15, did you write your own view points in Paper 2? If yes, then in which topics/questions/sections.

Q8) Please provide the list of reference material Used.
    Indian Philosophy:
    Western Philosophy (Plato to Hegel)
    Contemporary Western Philosophy
    Socio-Political Philosophy
    Philosophy of Religion

    Thank you ... Cheers
Hi, Can try to answer the questions.

Paper 1 - 117 ( left two 10 markers in Indian Philosopy) Attempted 2 questions from Western Philosophy. Left the essentialism one.

Paper 2 -122 - Attempted 2 question from socio political philosophy. Left the women empowerment one.

English medium. As far as I can remember, attempted all correctly. Though, in the hindsight, few answers could have been better.

Relied on Patanjali printed notes. Heavy use of internet along with it and previous years question paper. My previous optional was PSIR so referred to Heywood for political theory. Took vision test series. It helped a lot for answer framing and style aspects, but not much content wise.

    I wrote in short paragraphs.

Regarding giving your own view points. I just tried to rote learn a few points and presented my answers around them. There is hardly any time to think in the exam hall. Obviously, depending on the questions, one will need to write about the philosopher/ philosophy rather than merely what he says. I cant exactly recall which question were such in paper-1 but it was pretty straight forward. In some questions, it was necessary to give your own view points like 'Can religious nationalism be a threat to a secular state?'. In such questions, i tried to be diplomatic. Focused more on philosophical aspects like What is a secular state? what is nationalism? what is religious nationalism? How can it be a threat? Rather than taking name of any country or political party.

Not able to recall much. Hope that helps guys. Cheers.
