Is anthropology on the verge of becoming pub ad/ geo as many are opting for it?

This year itself only 3-4 crossed 250. Given the count would substantially increase next year, can we assume its demise?

  • No way!! See the results of all the optionals and all have performed in the same manner. This time gs and essay played the role of a kingmaker and not optionals.
  • Look at the scores of medical science or maths or any other science subjects. For e.g. 4th ranker got 286 in med science that too in 1st attempt. There is a guy in maths who got 299. I don't think any anthropology guy would match that.
  • Ok u take mathematics and score 350+==> :)
  • Medical science and math optional was always scoring....this is not new phenomenon...
  • During our interview this year there was maximum number of people with sociology optional...but result is more or less same ...
  • Yes that's true.......Antho ki to issbaar bhi lagegi........bakki sab optionals mein achhe number aaye hai.....Ye optionals hi scrap kar dena chahiye......

    There are two reasons why these subjects are performing better :
    opted by those having backgroung in this subject and hence indepth knowledge
    Secondly some sort of objectivity is there which helps to score better.

    yes thats one of the reason.. people write very average answers in anthro.. in paper 2 people write GS answers. there are many people these days who are sharing notes and those notes clearly show that people are not clear even with basic concepts but still get 230-240 because UPSC has to give some marks.. but they don't receive marks on higher end because no one writing class answers.. as all relying on Vaid. etc notes.. 4 month padhoge toh itna hi aaega..
    reading original texts gives clarity that cannot be achieved by reading notes.. in anthro people remember 10 points on something and vomit them out on paper.. with no link between points, just like a motley cow making answers look absurd .. no one focuses on imbibing the concepts and the feel of the subject..

    but also one cannot deny it is under hammer as people who have received good marks earlier also are scoring low now..
  • Jisko lag raha hai butcher Ho raha hai. You are free to chose another subject but don't spread rumours here. The marks were low but it was not butchered.
