Indian Foreign Services- Is it worth to undergo 4-5 years of probabtion?

I may be ahead of time but can some one clarify on following:
1) I have heard there is 4-5 years probabtion in IFS .Is it true?
2) You have to pass CFL exam for some of foreign language?
3)Does they provide a Masters degree in International affairs ? As in 4-5 years i want to upgrade my degree from bachelors to masters at least .

All these doubts are pertaining to my recent visit to UN site.It demands job experience at international fora and Masters & above degree is social sciences,Accountancy,Actuarial or International relation . I cant find a single job for a B Tech in Engineering and i did feel disgusted why have i wasted my 4 years on B.tech . So now I wish to get a masters from any of the Arts subject .I just wish to know IFS will grant me a degree or I have 4-5 years down the drain without any up gradation of degree.

I know many of you will tell its enriching , you are gaining knowledge but u will not even be shortlisted if u havent completed a degree . u will not get an opportunity to showcase your knowledge even if you are more competent than degree holders.

Some please clarify on my three queries.

Man, IFS is a job not an educational degree. Please go through the wikipedia page for it, you seem to have no clue about what the job is about.

The Indian Foreign Service is in no way connected to the UN. The UN website only has openings for the direct recruitment into the United Nations Organisation, the IFS officers do not apply for jobs on the UN's website. Most IFS officers never get to work in the UN.

You seem to have missed the point. As far as i know to clear your probation you have to clear the exam of CFL. And second point what if i want to work in UN after resigning from IFS.

You want to get into UN, this is a forum for UPSC. IFS doesn't post you in UN. These deputations might come, but rarely do. So you don't need to apply for UPSC. You need to get the required degrees as mentioned on the UN site and then apply. And as far as your queries go, the answers are No, Yes and No respectively.

1) Clearing the CFL exam is not a big deal, if someone is good enough to clear the CSE with a top-100 rank then they can definitely acquire high-school level proficiency in a language. Everyone clears the CFL, some more difficult languages like Japanese and Chinese get a longer training that's all.

2) Does the IAS give you a masters in public administration? Does the IPS give you a degree in criminology? No. But obviously, the officers are free to pursue their academic interests and are even provided study leaves for it.

I just think planning about your career after resigning from the IFS when you aren't even in the IFS is a little daft.

I share @stardust1901 's opinion that if you can clear upsc with a top 100 rank than learning a language would not be a tough proposition .
If you want to work for UN than this site might not be of much help mate ... !!!

By joining IFS, you will again feel you are wasting 4-5 years, like you have wasted 4 years studying B.Tech.
So, it is better to do MA(Preferred subject), and apply to UN directly if you think that is the job you want.
