Prelims 2014 date tentative or final?

edited August 2013 in Miscellaneous
As we all know that CSE 2014 prelims date has been finalised to be held on 24th august. The reason for shift is most certainly the general election 2014.. But if due to political uncertainty the election is held 2-3 months before the expected month then could there might be another change in prelims date? please put some light on the issue.....

  • the shift is not entirely due to general election, one of the reasons might be because upsc wants to continue the old format of allowing just about 3 months gap between prelims and mains... but as far as 2014 is concerned the prelims most likely will be on 24th august itself..

Then they could have done prelims in the month of may and mains in september...

  • @liverpool yes they could have done... but bro, I have never heard of upsc pre-poning or advancing the dates of CSE just because it has a chance of clashing with elections... for your info, the 2009 general election was held between 16 April 2009 and 13 May 2009 and 2009 cse prelims was on 17th may itself!
  • election has no effect on upsc exam. there are so many important exam being conducted between jan and may 2014. reason could be that -- whether to have any change in prelims pattern or not. like changing weightage of paper, having sectional cutoff, enlarging the syllabus etc. although i do not think so. main reason according to me is to give ample time for prelims to those who had appeared at interview. earlier almost 100 percent people who had appeared at interview w ere able to clear next prelims. this year only 10 percent
  • @animesh4242 are you sure about this 10%....????
  • Till now, UPSC has not announced abt the postponing the exam to august...

I hope they change the date back to may. One year is too long a time to wait ! #-o
UPSC must come up with a faster exam process than the present one where our fates hang in balance for over an year and precious youthful years of thousands of aspirants are getting wasted. #Wishful thinking
  • Here goes my 50 cents. The reason that Prelims Exam is being conducted in August:
    1. Earlier Pre used to be conducted in May & Mains in Oct with 4 months gap in between.
    2. Because of Mains Pattern Change the Mains Exams were postponed by two months (two extra months were given to students for preparation and all)
    3. When Mains were conducted in Oct, the Mains result used to be declared in Feb; Interviews used to be conducted in Mar-Apr; Final result used to be declared in May.
    4. Now this time as the Mains exam have been pushed by two months; Mains result expected to be declared in Apr; Interviews to be conducted in May-Jun; and Final result to be declared in Jul-Aug.

So no chance of prelims date being revised. I believe this is going to be tentative future schedule of CS Exam from now onwards till the time there is a change in pattern again.
  • earlier mains used to end on 29 th nov . this year it will end on 5 th dec. so only one week delay. so final result will be on 3/4 may 2014. after result lots and lots of things r to be done before 1 sept. for anythings there r always main reason and few supporting reasons. main reason beside above given by me, could be that upsc want to give ample time for fresh graduate also.supporting reason could be that upsc does not want candidate to sweat it out in interval as this year it was widely reported after prelims.
about 10 percent .. till now i havenot known anyone who appeared at interview and had cleared prelims.even on this forum
  • Election will always be held before independence day
