Surviving civilisation

What is meant by the line "In terms of culture, Indus Valley is the only surviving civilization"?
All the civilizations that we have known Mesopotamian, etc. all have certain evidences to it. Then aren't they also surviving?

surviving in the sense continuity of its culture and beliefs, the practice followed by them and there beliefs are still present in same form or in modified form in our current indian society like worshipping pashupatinath i.e. Shiva and other practices whereas the other lost civilizations like mesopotamian and egyption etc they lost there continuity. Atleast that is what i understood by surviving civilization. Maybe someone else can explain better..

Not only Shiva worship, but also other aspects like ornaments( Bangles etc) ,Yoga ( some statues of sages in different yogic postures had been discovered), fire alters( some says for Yajna and some says like Tandoor since they don't have the calculated dimensions. For Yajna , dimensions of Yajna Kunda are very important, which eventually led to development of Geometry in India. But anyways, Tandoor and Yajna Kunda both are still part and parcel of Indian Culture) , mother godess, bull worship are some other features.
