Tropical climates have less temperature variations with seasonal precipitation.
Indian subcontinent experiences less variation in the annual temperature range due to surrounding large water bodies i.e. Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal. Also the temperate influence of the siberia is blocked by the himalayas and tibetan plateau. This isolation of cold waves from siberia and south west monsoon keeps Indian subcontinent in Tropical climate zone..

(i) Rainfall pattern due to the extent of influence of the monsoon:- Barring western Rajasthan and the Great Rann of Kachchh,the whole of India comes under the influence of the monsoon.The average annual rainfall in the country,is greater than 50 cms.
(ii) Comparatively higher mean temperature and minimum daily deviation :- The ITCZ and the sub tropics cover India entirely.Direct exposure to the sun keeps the southern half of the country warm (ITCZ).The temperature deviation in these regions, is minimal except for the interiors due to the moderating influence of the sea. In the northern half of India too,the rising hot air from the tropics,deflected due to earth's rotation moves towards the sub tropics,maintaining a high temperature .The Himalayas act as a barrier against the temperate climate influences from furthur north in this region.
Meeting the 2 essential requisites viz. temperature and rainfall patterns,is the reason India is said to have a tropical climate.
Also, (iii) The natural vegetation and fauna:- in India is dominated by tropical monsoon,tropical savanna and tropical rain forests.Almost all the species of flora and fauna, typical of the tropics are found in India.
