Geography Optional

  • Geography is suicidography....I highly recommend to desist from this death canyon... Take it from me if u put even 75% of effort that is required in geography into anthro or philosophy ,can deterministically score 270 easily... If u think it helps in GS1, that's a naïve assumption to say the least , rather it proves counterproductive ( massive syllabus creates such a complex situation before the exam)... These ORN coaching walas often end up misleading students in a honey trap while chosing optional, for their own capitalisticgains.. i caution the aspirants of these selfcentered optional guides....make an informed choice guys...
    So true
  • Don't forget to practice old questions. Do them from that pdf uploaded on directionias website where questions are segregated by topic. It helps cover a lot of topics easily.
    Yes! Thanks. I have been doing them.
    Using Vishal's for the same!!
    Vishal's? Bro @anirudh91 , is it some book Of solved papers? If so then please share the link. I'd buy. Thanks. :-)
    Nope! The one that I have is collection of questions.

    How regularly, thoroughly you do
    -> rupa 2 books.
    -> topic based book like geomorphology by savinder, oceanography, biogeography.
    because I don't follow these sources.
    In topic based books I have done , Geomorphology by Savindra Singh (not full). There are 3-4 chapters that should be covered from here in addition to Geomorphology from the Physical Geography Book.
    Another big benefit of writing questions is that you can easily cover the critical revolution/QR/Determinism and such parts directly by attempting these questions (As there isn't much to twist here).
    Thanks for Geomorphology.
    But about critical geographies i think upsc will bring lot more in. This time they brought Time geography, a part of behavioural Geo!!

    Did Time Geography from Sudipta Adhikari. I have preferred that book for Geographical Thought. Its tough to get through, but once you do it is really beneficial.

    Get hold of himanshu sir's 500 notes...nothing spectacular but you'll get some help in the type of questions that can be made. There's a lot of extra info from various reports also that doesn't hurt given the way our question paper evolved.

    P.S.I had attended the course in offline mode for Mains'17, dint read the current part very thoroughly although there was enough content like climate change, corals, global pollutiion etc., but overall it helped me and hence the suggestion.
