if you are short of money, you can take 2-3 hindu newspapers along with you and sleep on the floor in between the seats. many guys do that for psc exams as it is diffcult to get tickets at this moment.
If someone can help u to get a recommendation letter of an MP/DM,then u can drop that recommendation letter in Rail Bhawan. BT it has to be done 24 hrs before the departure time.
very easy.............get hold of any IRTS(even IRAS,IRPS,RPF or railway engg services people) and give them the details of the ticket ..if the person is posted in northern railway then he can apply the higher official quota himself (or forwarded by his senior)..else he will get it done by his friend posted in delhi division or baroda house or railway board..it is just a matter of a signature
Caveat-Details should be given prior to 4 hrs in case of trains after 12pm and in case of early morning trains the night prior to the departure of train before 8pm(owing to chart preparation limitations)
tickets forwarded by Minister/DM/SP etc may not get confirmed unless its glaringly official but all tickets get confirmed through railway officials(official as well as non official)
i always make ticket one day before journey and get it confirmed this way
