HI all,,
I am following the advice given at this forum and other sites for the science part but I am facing difficulty in the biology portion.
I noticed that most of the news in Hindu Thursday Sci and Tech edition relates to bio part(genes, patent,TB etc etc).
I am an engineer so physics and chemistry is not an issue but bio scares me..
I have read the basic 6-10 ncert of science . No problem faced. But 12th class bio is a difficult task..
So please guide me in what way and through what sources should I read so that I will be able to grasp the thrusday edition easily...

and ncerts you have read already...thats enough..
Personally, I think the GS manuals are full of a lot of crap and need to be skimmed only. They give too theoretical a knowledge in all Physics, Chemistry & Biology zones whereas standard theoretical questions are rarely asked anymore. For example, there is very less probability that they are gonna ask you about the function of mitochondria. However, they may ask you the relevance of mitochondria in a 'three parent baby' case. This implies that one ought to have more practical knowledge than theoretical.
However, it must be cautioned that certain areas such as those of health, sanitation, nutrition and allied diseases should be understood with deep clarity for they attract direct (and, confusing) questions sometimes.
valuable guidence for me also...
thanks
Arpit:
I dont fear biology because I am an engineer but actually I become engineer because I fear biology.. During my schooling days usually there are only two profession people opt i.e doctor vs engineer. I become engineer because I don't like biology part like cytolplasm, mitochondria, animal cell, plant cell etc etc at all. The reason may be that earlier NCERTs are quite boring.
But I am not giving excuse and now trying hard to understand it. I want to understand how to grasp those concepts like DNA technology and TB case etc etc.
for example:

Now despite reading basics in ncert, there are many terms in it not easily understood by me. Now if I search it on google, their explanations ae even more complex and contain other complex terms. n I can't invest much time on science part only as other portion are also to be read. So want to know how to pick up exam-important thing out of it.
I haven't made any notes yet out of any Thrusday edition . So just want to start. :-/
I suggest you go to Youtube for the subject. If you find that the videos are using complex jargon and thus, increasing your discomfort, try adding words such as 'high school', 'biology teaching' to the search. More often than not, the search is bound to serve you with simpler videos.
I understand that this may take some time and eat up your schedule for other parts. Why don't you try it in your spare time when you are taking a break from the books? The videos are more cognizable to human mind and hence, perhaps, more fun!
PS: I am an engineer too and I understand that fear of biology. Now, we need to think like administrators and understand our requirement to pursue the basics.
I have not yet used the youtube option.. Will try it...
Ya , I am trying to inculcate this thinking of administrator thats why trying hard for getting my concepts and basics clear...
By the way could you tell me how you are preparing for the science portion for pelims and mains??
