I want to start sociology preparation for 2019 mains, but going to Delhi is not a viable option. M looking to prepare from home, but unable to understand how to study and where to start from. Can please anybody guide? Should I take some online classes and that too from which institute?

Buy ignou ba material.. Buy nitin sanghwan book essential sociology.. Start with ncert...finish a part..refer to ignou..then to nitin sirs book..and make notes after 3 reading... And ur ready to face 2019 battle for sociology.. Note: dont take anything for granted... Getting vikas sir videos free does not mean that u should watch them carelessly..watch with dedication as if u hv paid for it. 2 dont get lost in material collection 3 use telegram wisely 4 do answer writing practice 5 do not go then and now for suggestions..use your knowledge and wit. 6 complete syllabus fast dont slow the pace 7 after completing revision join a paid test series. 8 AND MOST IMPORTANT.....START

Yes the sleepy classes is also very good.. Hero u get short crisp and to the point video.. But it is not cmpltd. if the series to be cmpltd soon..then it is the one of the best lecture series.

I will suggest you don't go for shortcut like videos and notes initially. Else you will always keep feeling something hollow in your prep.First sit and study rigorously standard books and complete syllabus in defined time frame .You can take reference with some notes if u find them good enough but focus on standard sources first.
notes and videos no matter how exhaustive and good it may be can never substitute your basic thorough reading and especially when you are reading sociology for first time.

I read india after Gandhi book last year cover to cover but has it enrichened my thought process in any way that would help me in the exam? nope , I cant even remember the order of things in post independence india, what I remember are stupid things like during emergency to escape censorship some one published "Death of D.E.M O'cracy T. Ruth and L.I Bertie" etc

Peripheral topics could very well be done this mugging-and-vomiting way.
But for core concepts of thinkers like say, Class Struggle of Marx, you’d never understand it adequately from those class notes. It’s counterproductive at times.
But yes, Instead of multiple ‘standard’ textbooks, YouTube playlists of lectures from good universities would help immensely.
