These nomenclature are used for distinguishing two organic horizon layer. Aoo is used for the layer which is partially decomposed litter and Ao is used for the layer which contains black jelly like layer.
Ao is more mature in the sense that the organic layer is decomposed completely and has turned into goo while Ao is still in the process of humidificarion.
There are many factors which lead to such horizons - 1. In humid and warm climate particularly the tropical rainforest region where temperarure is high with high productivity of forests there are enough organic litter on the ground. In such environment microbial environment is also high which may lead to humus turning into black jelly like layer. 2. while in the areas which have moderat productivity and noderate temperature the organic layer may be partially decomposed thus AO0 layer.
While the posssibility of existence of both the layer in similar environment can't be denied but thwre is one thing which is clearabout these layers. Ao0 is partially decomposed layer and Ao is black jelly or goo like humus.
