  • Public Administration. Is it not what is a must for us to learn as future bureaucrats? What are they playing at, if they really want to discourage people from opting for it.

I do not have this optional, but I must say, if this is what they intend to do, unfortunate!
  • @deusAdeeb
Correct decision. Moreover unlike science optionals, eco has overlapping sylb with gs. Why didn't u take up eco in your very 1st attempt itself?

  • I had pub admin before and I read the paper ... it seemed like completely unrelated words joined together ... what the heck did people even manage to write?

.... regarding optionals - I think the social sciences are a big no no ... I have socio and the marking is ridiculously unpredictable ... so economics or science are a good bet ....

just for those of you are considering socio - one thing - it has zero ZERO value in GS ... some topics may seem like related to socio like say poverty ... but socio talks about the functions or benefits of poverty too , which you can't say in a GS paper ... in fact you don't require socio for any general questions.... so pls note there is no overlap
  • @Jugaad I have been asking that question to myself since November. I guess, it was due to lack of proper guidance and circumstances. I started preparing in MAY 2012 by taking some project as a part of my thesis in Delhi when I had 1 year left for my graduation. People used to get decent marks in PubAd back then. I had to attend my college during Dec 2012 -May 2013. When I cleared prelims in 2013, I had only PubAd to fall back on as no new optional would get completed in 3 months. 2013 saw a moderately difficult paper and I thought that 2012 was just an abberation. So, I stuck to PuAd.

I was never interested in it. It was just a 'hyped' optional back then. Even the toppers from my college endorsed it. Some f***er told me that Economics can see intense competition as PHD students from DU also compete in it. It sounds silly now but back then I was an amateur.
  • Sorry, deleted that comment @Jugaad, but yes we should have thought at that time...

How is mathematics? Any idea? I'm not too much strong because I never took it seriously but I think the questions would be straightforward and not that we are wasting half of the time interpreting the questions.
  • @deusAdeeb
I passed out this year and this was the exact dilema that I faced. Had already made up my mind for maths. But considering the fact that I had to prepare the optional in 3months I just took up pub ad. Socha ki chalo gs2 ke portions bhi cover ho jayenge next attempt ke liye. Poori tarah doob gaya :((
  • @Armstrong
Have you done engineering maths seriously?
