To claim OBC reservation benefit in UPSC, you need TWO certificates:

    OBC caste certificate
    Non-creamy layer certificate.

Sometimes experts too can go wrong .. :D ..

    OBC[NCL] is a 2 in 1 certificate .

Dont worry !! I got my OBC[NCL] yesterday .. But I applied for CSE-2015 by putting 29th May 2015 as the tentative date . I know it does not matter . UPSC just need certificate which made before closing date of applying for the exam ie : 19th June 2015 ..
  • I have got an obc certificate which is dated in 2009. Do I need to get a new obc certificate in the format given by UPSC or Can I fill the prelims form with the 2009 date? and get a new certificate afterwards at the time of interview.......Please Clarify.
  • 2009 wont be accepted . Get a new one . You got plenty time left to apply for this year's exam , [last date : 19/6/2015]
  • Hi All.....I am a SC category student......it would be really helpful if anyone can help me resolve below 2 queries:
    1) I have already filled the CSE form by filling the date of issuance of caste certificate same as the one which is there on my original caste certificate because I have not made the caste certificate in upsc format till now. Please tell if it is fine or not ? or do i have to get the certificate made in upsc format & then put that date in the new form?
    2) When are we required to submit this caste certificate in UPSC format ? i.e at the time of filling DAF or at the time of interview ?

Sorry.... these queries may seem trivial but I am confused thinking abut them....... thanks
  • 1) Get UPSC format certificate and fill the application form with that date.

    2) Submission of all certificates including caste is required for mains written[xerox copies ] . While having personality test , candidates need to carry all relevant original documents in hand .
  • 2009 wont be accepted . Get a new one . You got plenty time left to apply for this year's exam , [last date : 19/6/2015]
bhai curious to know where does it say 2009 wont be accepted.

According CIC , its difficult to finalize the validity of OBC[NCL] certificate due to technical issues . So currently no validity regarding the same is there ..

However , govt officials consider every certificates' validity to be just 6 months old .

Even if you apply with 2009 issued certificate , UPSC could make you to resend the same with recently issued one . They would even send you UPSC applicable format .

2009 is way old since then many inclusion and exclusion of castes from OBC , even creamy layer is been increased from 4.5 lakhs to 6 lakhs have occured.. So from this understanding , it implies apply with latest format and date .

    Hope its clear . :)>-
  • @Vibin thanks for your response.....would it be fine if I get this certificate made in upsc format after prelims but before mains ??

I mean I have already filled the form with original caste certificate date & somebody in an other forum was suggesting that we can fill the form at this stage with original caste certificate date but have to get community certificate made in upsc format before mains...

  • "Candidates seeking reservation/
    relaxation benefits available for SC/ST/
    OBC/PH/Ex-servicemen must ensure
that they are entitled to such reservation/
relaxation as per eligibility prescribed in
the Rules/Notice. They should also be in
possession of all the requisite certificates
in the prescribed format in support of their
claim as stipulated in the Rules/ Notice
for such benefits, and these certificates
should be dated earlier than the due date
(closing date) of the application for Civil
    Services (Prelims) Examination, 2015 "

I just copy pasted from this year's notification .. So complete the formalities as UPSC prescribed . @Movingon :)>-
