  • can any one tell the difference between cultural theory and sub-cultural theory of deviance??
  • Seniors plz help,,,,,What is the source to solve Haryana PCS Prelims questions on thinkers (Eg. Who wrote this book(around 10-15 Q), Who said this, Term first used by?

If any specific book or class notes, plz mention as I didn't find mostly questions solvable from Upendra notes?
  • @Udit2

sub cultural means culture of a sub group. sub group means it shares similarity in many normative and valuational aspect of the larger group and differences too. For example one is punjabi but at the same time Indian. SO culture of punjab shares alot of similarity as well as differences with culture of India. sub cultural theory of deviance means response of the sub group (lower class youth) as a reaction to mainstream American culture.

cultural theory does not see any relationship between the two group and treat them as entirely distinct. For example, Kashmiris in India consider them as completely distinct from rest of India and therefore demand secession. On certain historical moments Dravid Kazhgam movement also considered dravidians to be distinct from Aryans Brahmanical Hinduism.

  • i have read the blue haralombs(of course no one can read it fully) , many people are saying its indispensable and all but honestly speaking i found it very bulky ,scattered and impossible to finish!its quite difficult to segregate whats unimportant.is it really indispensable? i prefer ignou over it ! has anyone read paper 1 by C.N.Shankar rao?how good is it ?
  • Hello friends,
I need a suggestion from you. I have finished reading and making notes of both P1 and P2 (IGNOU and HH being the most prominent resources here) From past 2 months I have not touched sociology as I have been focussing on insights test series for prelims. But of late I have started thinking if this is the right thing to do by ignoring sociology at the moment after finishing it and making notes (plan to start it asap after the pre). Will the time be sufficient after pre for it?
I am also writing answers for GS papers on insights and finishing up Economic Survey/World History. So these will not take much time after pre for me.

@aditya_bahety I dont know if hh is indispensable..but one thing for sure if u cover specific chap like rel - fam- deviance - power etc..u don't need anything else...its true its bulky ,scattered..and in first reading u don't understand how to go about it ..I mean using it for exam..but once u read Ur 2 times..try making flow charts to understand how the book is explaining..it will be easy..and most loved book..

@harshit14 it depends if 2016 is Ur first time..then u can work upon pre + and writing fr Socio test till may mid..else work only on Socio if u have good prep for pre..do its 70:30 or 80:20
