@never_back_down I was thinking along similar lines i.e. post subprime crisis. thanks for pointing it out. mentioning it outright that Weber's out of sync might not please the examiner. better to tone it down and substantiate your view in a moderate language.

what should be the preparation material for paper - 2 ? i was planning on reading upendra sir class notes and ignou chapters ! would that suffice or m i going down the wrong route? pls suggest

Division of labour has happened across the world but India is the only country where there’s a superimposed division of labourers. ?
I guess this question needs to be addressed by primarily giving examples of the Indian caste system its rigidity and how a persons occupation is determined by the caste he is born in so its much more superimposed when compared to other western countries where there's been a working class ,bourgeoisie and the ruling class where mobility is much more when compared to our caste systems

guys how can we compare marx and weber on capitalism which parameters and who do u think is more relevant today ??
Marx is concerned about the conflict and social change in society. But weber is focused on stability and order..This is the basic premises on which both look at capitalism. Both build their arguments on the same platform of economic determinism.
Karl Marx considers only two classes in capitalism where as weber identifies other intermediate class,status groups. For Marx class, status and power derives from the same economic infrastructure and he relates these 3 aspects of stratification to economic condition.But for weber these 03 are interrelated but unique and has separate identity. Today's capitalist society resembles webers model than conflict ridden Marx,s model. Weber argues that it is the market which determines the class and status groups. A person who is skilled and efficient will be consumed by the market and he has high demand for his talent and earns good money and he will be get fit into upper class. Unskilled and illiterate may not have great demand in labour market and will remain in lower class which deviates from bourgeois and proletariat dialectical model and inherent conflict between them... In the similar way people with different tastes and life style enjoys different status groups. Weber doesn't reject the presence of different status groups in a particular class..Marx predicts the revolution and rule of proletariat but weber looks at the stability and order in the system predicts other social phenomena than revolution.
When we analyze contemporary capitalist society , it seems that weber model is more practical and relevant than Marx model.
