  • @ 123rst: bhai m not...abhi to getting into da habit of newspaper reading.it is taking great time, magar i am touch with few experienced guys who told me ki.time ke saath saath hindu kam.time me khatam hone lagega.and yes reading laxmikanth, finished almost 2-3 chapters tats it. Its a long process, want to save energy till next year mains.
  • @rahularanshu yaar my snr said pehele basics kar lena, but he also said keep makin notes of current.
  • R u people planning to join any coaching?
  • Those who are only preparing for 2015 CSE and want to nail it in the first attempt,I have my own practical advice for you which may work provided you follow inch by inch, word by word and finish this within a specific limit of time and not get bogged down by any(and i mean it) kind of distractions what so ever..

I know many of you are those who are having a tough time reading the Hindu+doing aptitude for CSAT and also devoting time for basic books like LAXMIKANT,NCERTS,Ramesh singh and the others..

Well, this will be ineffective for the most as I myself have tried and used to get frustrated when my targets or portions didnt used to be completed within a given set of time..That's when I realised that I am actually trying to be perfect doing all at once and this examination is not doing everything perfectly as one possibly cant..

Therefore,1st things 1st: Divide your day within 2 frames..Start with all these static materials..You know all the standard books..and bang on complete them..If u sincerely study for even 8 hours a day(donot tell me it is not possible,it is..if you are not doing others are) then the syllabus will be almost completed in 2-3 months for GS..Do it like this:get up at 4 o clock in the morning and then study for a couple of hours like say take laxmikant and devote 3 chapters minimum and 5 chapters maximum in those 2 hours..after that take a break, have a shower,be done with your breakfast and maybe at 8 or 9 study uptil lunch..you can take laxmikant and study minimum 5 chapters or more depending on your speed..after doing this have your lunch and then do again 3 hours of solid study till 5 or 6 in the evening and see how much of the book u have finished..I bet you will have finished uptill 9 chapters minimum to 12 chapters maximum..within a week and a half laxmikant is finished..You may ask how is it possible to finish so many chapters at once, how to retain concentration,I can do it,I have never done that before, blah blah...But dude, or miss, U have practically no chance...Okay now in Hindi..Arey aapke paas option kaha hai ye mujhe pahle bataye?? IAS banne ke sankalp ko lekar hi toh aapne padhne ka nirnay kiya tha..agar aap job karte toh 8 se 10 ghante minimum karte waise hi kyuki aap full time preparation kar rahe ho toh iska matlab utne ghante jitna job pe laga rahe the utna yaha lagana toh ekdum jaruri hai,hai ki nahi??khud se sawal karo..

So after doing laxmikant till the evening I mean till 5 or 6,You start with aptitude preparation(MATHS+REASONING+ENGLISH)till the night most probably till 8 8.30 or 9..Now why:
because it will not only help u in UPSC CSAT it will also help you in all the other exams you or for the most of the aspirants give such as SSC CGL/IBPS/SBI/LIC/RAILWAYS/OTHERS ...Even if you donot give those exams it is there in prelims and you donot want to get chucked out of the race only because you were bad at this silly aptitude..Another thing is that it doesnot take more than 2 months at the most if you spend your evenings practising it..

Now why I am being so harsh is that I have been in this preparation since 2 years and will appear in 2014 this year prelims but have completely wasted my 2 precious years and only started serious and sincere preparation this year(a few months back)onwards..That's why I very well know how time flies, how we are involved in family problems, how internet,tv,movies all kill time, how social functions like marriages, parties etc eat up our time and we get lost in them..We tendto be stronger at the onset and within a few months we get loose..Also I very well know how spending time even at FORUMIAS(this website) shall eat up both our time as well as there are so many personal attacks+speculation+meaningless gossip which first timers get butchered into not for their personal will but because they are naive..No insult to the seniors but first timers need to be judicious..

  • Alongside donot get into the notion that if you study subjects in a mix pattern(3 ch of economy the 2 chapters of polity and so on) you will get it all..This doesnt works for the most..Take a topic like polity..set a target for a week at most..finish it..revise and pratcise questions on it if u feel so and then take up another week for geography or history or any other subject or topic..Studying from early morning till the later half of evenings will not only get your syllabus finished within 3-4 months at the max but also keep your health in shape as late nights possess harmful effects(personal experience but u can be my guest and try studing late at nights till morning) and also your respective parents will support u like never before when they will see their sons/daughters studying the most of the day for an exxamination..You will practically get everything within your reach from juice to milk to nutitious food and will be well taken care of if u are at the close vicinity of ur parents..for those outside they wont get this but they will getthe immense satisfaction of completion of the syllabus which is THE MOST IMPORTANT NEED OF EVERY FIRST TIMER

After completing this mentioned above, jump for current affairs..and by current affairs that have occured in the past I mean make notes in separate copies and revise them..current affairs notes are available everyhwre in this world be it online or inn delhi or in coaching class booklets;so if u miss 3 months current affairs since u were finishing the static and the basics I would say u were a smart ass and u are even ahead of many thousans who spend 2 to 5 hours reading the hindu making notes for economical, international, national topics without knowing the basics which u will know as u have finished the topics..So u can pick or copy paste current affairs from anywhere of the months u missed and it will hhardly take a week or 2..and also after that prepare daily current affairs+revise all u finish +daily aptitude practice..after this stage u will revise more often all u studied, practice GS answer writing from previous question papers, current affairs notes making daily+aptitude practice..it will take just 6 months from now to reach this stage where u will be damn confident because:

1)You have finished the basics and have revised till 3 times.
2)You will have made current affairs and are making +revising it often means you know every significant other topic of the year in the news and are damn well prepared for mains next year..
3)You will have started answer writing practice and will know what it means to write answers which is also a significant aspect of the exam and which fetches more marks than anything.
4)You will practice daily aptitude becoming almost a master in this section and will have attempted many exams like SSC/IBPS/LIC/ACIO whatever gov or other exams or backups u have been appearing for,may be u will also get employed somewhere and wont have to think and get frustrated at home..Thus being ahead of many novice aspirants who are still that time making notes of hindu+trying to complete statics(lol u will be just so damn ahead)..

Plus another piece of suggestion is that since u guyys are preparing for UPSC ,please and I beg donot take it in a callous manner ki haan aaj ghoom lete hai,kal polity padh lenge, haan aj usne bulaya hai kya geography padhna, papa tab se chilla rahe hai ab nahi padhenge, dimag kharab ho chika hai..

practically saying these all happen with every aspirant when he does something for the long run but if u are sincere and do the necessary hard work without even wasting 1 single day u will realise that leave aside friends u donot even need to get bothered with trivial small and petty family matters as these consume your energy and mental peace and concentration necessary and relevant for UPSC CSE(significant exam for full timers atleast who are not attending any other courses after graduation, who are not working anywhere, who are spending their precious years after a single examination and they donot need to spend their precious and highly important times in whiling away)..

So forget everyone while studying and until you pass the exam donot care(I mean it) who does what even if somebody dies(just offer condolences and then get back to studies) as these things occur and keep on occuring but exams wont bethere for ever and chance wont be assured for ever..Plus prepare backups like SSC/IBPS/STATE PCS/ALLIED SERVICES anything...and try to get into them even if you cant knock IAS as :

1)Getting into any of the above will give u un-imagined confidence which wont be available at home as u are preparing hard for so many years and there is no light at the end of the tunnel..If you get into any gov job,u will breathe a sigh of relief and plus if follow the plan I mentioned above u dont have to study 8 hours back then just 3-4 hours while in job which is very much possible as u will have finished the statics 3 times or more and will just have to revise it..

2)You will get a significant amount of money as money believe it or not will uplift your image before yoru near and dear ones say family, friends, relatives or any one possibly and they wont be passing comments on your preparation as you will be doing a job+prepartion..You wont even gt time for any insignificant crap and will feel meaningful doing your hard work..

3)You wont feel the insecurity of wasting your youth and loss of job also makes one unproductive and frustrated which is harmful piece of mentality for preparation..Also while on job your mind will also be fresh since you will get time to spend outside and not get stuck at home preparing and preparing...

This concludes my piece of advice..Having said all this,I know many may not even read till the last word and many may make it a gospel as even I did this in the initial part of my preparation...But please whoever reads this till the last make it a strong resolve to clear this exam by the above mentioned techniques as I dont feel there is practically other ways of doing this..Also,hard work will make u better and better at this game..Also you will come to a stage when you wont feel the necessity of asking anyone or looking for help anywhere as you will be self reliant in seeking every answer for you..

    ALL THE BEST..GOD BLESS..
