Finally.. I got a bunch of people sailing with me.. I am starting with geography Ncerts. Trying to read newspaper as well. As abhi8738 said, its getting hard to compensate time for both. Thinking of sketching a new plan.Keep this thread active and post the progress, so that we can track and boost ourselves. .Lets b consistent in our preparation. All the very best guys..!!
preparation is now getting some momentum. I read The Hindu regularly now, in the following order:
1. Read front page - I consider anything which makes it to the front page of Hindu as important, so I read every news whether it seems important or not 2. Opinion and Op-ed - Lot of analysis and opinions. earlier this portion seemed boring but not anymore 3. National news 4. International new 5. Local news
Then I go through Indian Express quickly and read only the news which Hindu might have missed. the only part I can't get started with is Sports news, I don't find it interesting. you guys also share how you go about newspaper reading.
@scrooge_mcduck This is how I read The Hindu.. (Below are just my understandings) 1. Not every news in front page is necessary.. bjp/congress/politics stuff unless it revolves around any act, bills, policies etc, to cut short we have to be aware of govt. activities not political news. 2. Local news.. imp for interview, again not all. 3. Editorials are must and opinions are good. ( as a fresher, we get to know what imp issues going on.. anything in editorial means.. it should be or might be important in some context right? they won't write on unimportant issues..I guess.) 4. National news.. avoid politics. 5. International news.. concentrate more on diplomatic relations, bilateral issues, deals etc. 6. Business news... RBI decisions, SEBI etc.. (I have to improve in this area..) 7. Sports.. I think .. unless its a great accomplishment.. I won't read full article.. just limit myself to headlines. #-o Takes lot of time till we get accustomed to it.
@GoGirl yeah, in the beginning, it takes a lot of time and it'll reduce with regular practice. though I also don't focus too much on political news, but in the beginning, it'll be helpful to know the basic ideology of major parties. that's because politicians make government and then government makes policies.
to get a better understanding of business news, I'd suggest you to read Economics NCERT of class IX-X. you can finish in 3-4 sittings and it'll help in understanding the practical significance of RBI, SEBI, FinMin decisions.
Hey! its great to connect with you all I'm also aiming for 2015. I'm a graduate in computer science & Engg, batch 2013(don't ask me what have i been doing until now :P). I have finished Ancient and Medival History NCERTs (old ones). I have started with Modern, will update when i finish it up. I'm giving it a read then will follow up with brief notes on important events/acts/personalities etc in the second read. With this I'm following The Hindu and have started making notes of the major topics, for this i am taking help from insightsonindia's secure 2014 Questions from Daily newspapers and adding more points via internet and the answers that are posted as comments on the site.
i am also preparing for 2015 attempt.graduation(engg.) will be completed next year in may.currently doing laxmikanth for polity, and majid hussain for physical geography.i have completed india's struggle for independence and india after independence once. but confused about newspaper reading.when is the right time to start making notes from it??
@bakul As per my knowledge there is no right time but 1.5 yrs before the exam (prelims) is considered safe. May be someone else can through some light over this.
@crux - i think 12 months current affairs will be enough. you mentioned that you are taking help of insights daily question and using them for current affairs.could you please throw light on how you are doing it?? i have also thought of doing the same but confused about how to do it and whether each question will be relevant to exam or not?
