Q- “Self and society are twin-born”. Examine the statement of Mead.
@techack See, what's my take on this: This view is mid-way between Durkheim's view and Phenomenologist's and Psychologist's view. Durkheim's view is society put constraints on individuals to such an extent that individual is nothing but a society's manifestation. On the other hand, psychologists believe that individual is free of society to large extent. Mead believes that both society and self (individuals) influence and condition each other. Self internalizes society through the process of socialisation. Individuals use the symbols of society to communicate with each other through the process of role taking. Thus, society helps in the birth and formation of self. But at the same time, self influences society. Every self has a 'I' component which is not bound by the norms of society. It is creative and innovative and hence largely functions independent of social constraints. This 'I' introduces new norms in society and hence changes it. Further, you can also include here, the use of symbols which are invented by self and are basic to social formation.
I dont know if this is complete answer. May be more points can be added.

@brahMos... now i believe you should try testing your knowledge and your source worthyness by solving past paper of upsc n coaching... specially paper 2.. i bet you will realize what we read is in the most simplest form but wat is asked is application n dynamic part of the topic...

twin born= two entities which are born simultaneously. In this context it means that both self and society are born simultaneously and one does not have primacy over the other.
I dont know about the stages in formation of gender identity. But would generally analyse this question in terms of Mead's theory of socialisation: Group stage and play stage for generation of both male and female identity. Also include, differing symbols used to males and females. How continuous role taking leads to internalisation of these identities.
