Guys following are my point wise made query: 1)Which of you are considering of taking Geo as optional? 2)How to counter the dynamicity of Geo as shown last year? 3)Which Test Series are you going to take for Geo? 4) Has Anyone chalked out Convergence of Geo with GS?
I had Pali as my second optional till yester years. So i am left with no option.Kindly let us all Collaborate
How is this book? I've done Physical geography in Savindhra last year. Anybody tried this one by Majid Hussain. Will it enrich our physical geography answers or Savindhra is enough?.
Also Reviews needed on Rupa Series books on physical geography.
@all Is anyone interested in having a group/thread for discussing geography optional questions and answers (writing practice) similar to the one for pub ad?
@pratikh - Absolutely necessary but it equally important that the questions/trivia on books and study material are discussed elsewhere otherwise it disturbs the sanctity of the thread (Not discouraging any questions on books but just that it should be discussed in the relevant thread).
We can designate this thread itself for geography expected questions/syllabus/approach.
Since we are not sure how much participation the answer writing will attract, it would be better to upload/write the answers in this thread itself so that the thread doesn't die down slow death (we can rethink in case its required). We already have a separate thread for maps which is going good.
For starters, lets start with the questions already posed by @Armaan
2)How to counter the dynamicity of Geo as shown last year? I believe it would be better not to think too much about it. Last year geo paper has been widely acknowledged as "out of the league" and there's not much you can do about it. UPSC will throw up such papers every 3-4 years to correct the numbers in these highly preferred optionals. The key should be to cover everything mentioned in geography syllabus. It is difficult to predict & prepare a question like "Major components of IGBP" that came last year. 3)Which Test Series are you going to take for Geo? Not yet decided 4) Has Anyone chalked out Convergence of Geo with GS? I think it is important to learn the answer writeup for GS topics in geography. It would not be of much help to write an answer that is better suited for GS paper. Geography already has lots of common topics with GS. e.g food security answer in GS would probably require points related to issues, solutions & food security bill whereas a geography answer on same topic would require us to mention how are different continents doing on food security like N.America & Europe are well equipped. S.America doesn't see as much economic growth as S.Asia but still fares far better in terms of standard of life, IMR, MMR & food security.
@RS86 I feel we should have one thread for answer writing and another thread(maybe this one) for discussing resources (as @Siddharth suggested) . Otherwise everything will get muddled.
@Red_Queen Ya, topicwise answer writing will be nice. One chapter per week is not feasible. There are 20 chapters. Two per week should be fine.
