@Flywheel i gave an emotional intro about how it is ingrained in our minds that when we become officers, the doorman must salute us, the driver must open the car door for us etc etc. saying that this is one of the unintended manifestation os colonial mentality.
then explained what it is. where all can we see it. eg in legislation, administration esp police, social sphere etc. why is it prevalent here and why we havent been succesful in eradicating it. what its manifestations are, and how it hampers our progress. some detail about lack of reforming archaic laws and practices. finally conclusion about how we can reduce it.
Essay Topic-SnT (being an engineering graduate thought i can write a good essay on the topic, though never practised even a single essay) Expected- around 50-60 @-) Marks-86 :-O Started from the start of humankind and how science and tech has helped us grow and evolve with blah blah blah.. and then gol gol ghooming around useless points. and finally after realizing that i'm short on time ended the essay shoddily. Wrote around 2200 words. So now i'm surprised how does UPSC do this kind of marking? i mean, i know i wrote a bad essay, i would never award myself more than 65 marks if i had checked my own essay, but still ended up with 86. what if in my next attempt i write a good essay and end with lower marks than 86? UPSC really is Unpredictable PSC
A very rough sketch of my essay (I don't remember most of it now)- Spoke about what Gandhi meant by the quotation, how he led by example and a few instances of his 'being the change'. Analysed the relevance of change in today's world with special focus on India. The need for change at different levels- international, societal, and individual. Gandhi's internationalism and his followers around the world who became agents of change. Gandhians in India who have made a considerable impact on the nation leading by example. Wrapped it up by giving an overall summary.
However, I think I should have scored more in the essay. I was pretty satisfied with it. I wonder why they've been thrifty with marks this time around on Gandhi.
