@all Any representations or recommendations can be sent to the committee by way of addressing a letter to Additional Secretary Examination who is also a member secretary of the Baswan Committee. This is according to the reply to an RTI I filed.
Whether you want optional or not, everyone of us is a stake holder here. So, I'd suggest everyone of you to send them your views. Its better than discussing here, right?
The committee is expected to submit its report by next month end. So.. you better hurry up!
At least now, Optional paper prevents people from giving this exam. Optional haat gaye tho bhaiya UPSC will truly become the national passtime of India. Soocho, no optional and prev. pattern of CSAT in pre. God, exam hi hata do yaar! Just remove civil services itself.

Bro the syllabus and pattern of exam is changed and there is increase in number topics but nothing is removed , So according to these the pattern ,might be changed or some modification in optional syllabus or some new subjects but removal of optional is not there, Neither change in age or attempt limit. if u saw the engineering syllabus the changes are very less like my mech added one topic both in paper 1 and 2 and the topics was somehow related to post graduation level so may be some higher degree topics included in optional

I don't know whether optional is going or staying . But trend is towards optional removal. For example , Rajasthan ( RPSC), Punjab( PPSC), Madhya Pradesh ( MPPSC) have removed optional and they select candidate on the basis of single bench mark.
And the trend of increasing 40 as the age limit is also there so according to UPSC age limit will also increase to 40 and if u see state commission follows upsc but vice versa is not there . Upsc is much bigger and powerful than your so called state psc
